Since 1988, Paul T. Richard has built up a portfolio of communication and journalistic experience in: newspaper reporting and editing; technical writing and editing; interviewing; page lay out & design; publication desktop publishing; event planning and implementation (workshop coordination and meeting planning and facilitation); photography; and video production.
He has served in several capacities for businesses, schools, local, state and national governments and federal, state and local agencies, as well as non-profit organizations. He has applied his skills in diverse subjects, such as: community and environmental quality of life issues and policy development, public and private land-use planning, qualitative research, rural growth and tourism, public-land recreation planning and policy, information management and dissemination, community-based forestry, air pollution research, and tai chi/internal martial arts.
Since 2000, he has served as workshop coordinator for the Atmospheric Particulate Carbon Exchange, an informal interdisciplinary network of scientists seeking opportunities to discuss improving research methods and overall communication. He is proud to be a part in bridging communication gaps among major air pollution researchers and government agency policy development representatives as they work to improve methods and technologies in atmospheric carbon research worldwide.
He has developed communication strategies, managed small-budget projects and program-level activities, and produced and directed video programs.
He has provided input on policy development topics of regional and national significance to the USDA Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management.
Mr. Richard has recently served on the Board of the Durango Community Access Television and on the Durango Film Festival Documentary Screening Committee.
He currently studies and teaches tai chi and internal martial arts, and is a charter member of the World Association of Chinese Internal Martial Arts.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English-communication (print journalism concentration) and a Master’s in Communication Development (media management; thesis on Narrative Inquiry). In the past, he has taught courses in writing and literature, and provided internship- and career-development opportunities to students.
Mr. Richard is a native of southern Louisiana. He traces his roots back to the original French immigrants to the North American continent during the 17th century; known as the Cajuns, as well as 18th century immigrants from Spain. He speaks some French and Spanish, and he's learning a little Mandarin Chinese.
